Plug in hybrid cars

Why plug in hybrid cars are cool? Electric cars will be cool eventually, but not now. In North America anyway. Give it another 3-5 years.

So, I am a born German, immigrated to Canada in 1980. I always loved motorcycles and speed. The first 2 years in Canada my driving record was less than favorable. Well, I do respect the law and I never endangered any person in any way. Perhaps I scared a person here and there. I rode motorcycles in the access of 300 km/h back in the days before speed limiters came in affect. On racetracks of course. Cars where always boring to me, till BMW came out with their high-performance technologies. Why BMW? Well, from my perspective Mercedes was always more of a prestige brand and more built for luxury which is not for me since I cannot effort their AMG line up of performance vehicles. Some of BMW plug in hybrid competition felt more like buzzy appliances rather than a fun sporty car. Now, BMW came a long way to produce a ultimate driving machine with very sophisticated hardware and software. The 2021 BMW 330e proves the point. Plug in hybrid cars, for me that is the future for the next 5 years till solid state batteries dominate the electric car industry. Kimberly and I took a gamble to invest in a car which the federal or provincial government did not support with financial incentives. Whatever reason the government has, it is Incredibly sad indeed. It is an awesome car so far, German technologies all the way through.
The good:
Hybrid mode after driving 2600 km: average fuel consumption 1.9 litres per 100 km. We drove 1054 km on 20 liters of fuel. Right now we are at 1054 km. 715 km on pure electricity since we do a lot of short trips in the city. Before I did my trip to Canmore last week, we averaged 1.6 km per 100km. My highway trip of about 175 km return in sports mode and electric mode changed the mileage to 2.2 litres per 100km.
Pure electric mode:
In the city about 42 km till empty. On the Highway, average speed of 120 km/h, electric range was reduced to 22 km.
The bad:
Sports mode engine performance and x-tra boost, 7.5 litres per 100 km. But so much fun!
It is a very versatile vehicle. Save money and contribute to the environment is one option, or for me, it is the high revving motor, torque and acceleration. You have the best of two worlds!
Kimberly and I had to cancel our trip to Vancouver Island due to covid restrictions in British Columbia. Instead, we go to Medicine Hat and visit Cypress Hill and Waterton Park. Should be an exiting drive.
Stay tuned.

Footnote: The new range of Audi’s and Volvo’s plug-in electric vehicles are way out of my price range.

Why I love the new 2021 BMW 330e. Many people don’t understand the concept of a plug in hybrid vs a hybrid vs electric. Here are some of the best Youtube video’s who explain the advantages versus the disadvantages of each technology. North America needs to standardize the electrical charging system.

Why I choose the 330e:

My own experience in the new 330e plug in hybrid. So much fun to drive and yes, it saves fuel at the same time. Cool short video.
